Pittsburgh Police, Fire, and EMS were called to the scene where the man pronounced dead at 8:01 a.m. after suffering "grave injuries," officials said.

PPS also released the following statement reading in part:

"Pittsburgh Police Violent Crime Unit detectives responded per departmental protocol, which is anytime there is a fatality. VCU detectives are working closely with OSHA detectives and they will examine any and all available evidence."

Both the detectives and OSHA's investigations are "very active and ongoing," officials noted. The 400 block of Melwood Avenue to Baum Boulevard has been closed while the investigation is underway.
